Mary Nicholls
Mary was a member of Dinas Powys and Royal Porthcawl Golf Clubs and has such an amazing history. She was the 1st Welsh Lady President
of the L.G.U 1967-69, Mary was also the International Team Captain of Wales 1962-64, Chairman of the W.L.G.U in 1961-64, and President in 1970-77.
Mary was part of a group that organised the 1st Commonwealth Tournament in 1959 at St Andrews, and she was also involved in the reorganisation of the L.G.U Council, changing to: two representations from each of the four Home Unions. Prior to 1972, the council comprised of eight English, two Scots, one Irish and one Welsh. Mary also started the Welsh Girls Championships with Dr Phil Garfield-Evans, the first of these were played in 1954 in Llandrindod Wells.
After her death, her widower, Ivor Nicholls, gave the Salver to the County to be played in her name and this annual competition has been known ever since, simply as ‘The Mary Nicholls’.

Congratulations to Tîm Radyr for winning the final of the Mary Nicholls foursomes at Brynhill Golf Club beating Llanishen 4&2.
Neath battled against Mond Valley in a very close match for 3rd and 4th playoff and emerged victorious 2up
Well done to all the teams who reached the finals, and huge thank you to Brynhill for being fantastic hosts. Special mention must go to the Club Captain Lisa Taylor for supporting our day as spectator, taxi and facilitator

Mary Nicholls 2019
Thirty-four clubs took part in the competition last year, the eventual winners being ladies from Ridgeway Golf Club, who defeated Swansea Bay in an exciting final played at Cottrell Park Golf Club.

34 clubs from all over Glamorgan participated in the competition this year. After 5 months of knockout play the finals took place at Cottrell Park Golf Club between Swansea Bay GC, The Grove GC, Ridgeway GC and Llantrisant & Pontyclun on Friday 23rdAugust 2019. The afternoon finals produced a close match between Ridgeway and Swansea Bay. Ridgeway winning 3&1 to the runners up Jessica Williams and Jane Morgan representing Swansea Bay Golf Club.

Congratulations to The Winners of the Mary Nicholls Foursomes
Jane Morgan and Jessica Williams of Swansea Bay Golf Club.
The Mary Nicholls Finals were held at The Gower Golf Club on Friday 24th August 2018. The morning Semi-Finals were between Denise Richards and Lesley Davis of Creigiau GC vs Gill Lennox and Jo Bond of Langland Bay GC. The second match was Jane Morgan and Jessica Williams of Swansea Bay GC vs Carole Allen and Sue Holland of Brynhill GC. They were well fought matches with Langland Bay and Swansea Bay winning through to the afternoon Finals.
Both the 3rd\4th play-off match and the Finals produced some excellent golf which was enjoyed by players and supporters.
